Couples Workshop Pleasanton

For the past forty years, Drs. John & Julie Gottman, have researched thousands of couples leading to the development of the Art & Science of Love: A Couples Workshop. This workshop is designed for ALL couples in committed relationships for every age, stage (pre-marital, new marriages), ability and sexual orientation.

If you have a strong relationship, this workshop will provide you with insights and tools to foster further closeness, friendship, and trust. If your relationship is distressed, this two-day workshop will provide you with a greater understanding of your relationship and a road map for repair.

During the first day, you will learn how to build fondness, admiration, and closeness in your relationship. On the second day, you’ll work on conflict management while learning new and important communication skills. Couples work privately on exercises designed to address the challenges in real-life relationships. Certified Gottman therapists are available to support couples one-on-one with exercises. While the nature of this workshop is psycho-educational, all info gathered from couples will be kept absolutely confidential.

No public discussion or disclosure is involved. 

Learning Objectives:

  1. Renew respect and care for one another by using the Fondness and Admiration System. 
  2. Build and share a deeper connection with each other’s inner world by using Love Maps. 
  3. Develop problem-solving skills, including the six techniques of effective conflict resolution: Softened Start-Up, Accepting Influence, Repair and De-escalation
  4. Practice Physiological Self-Soothing by applying the time-out and relaxation method.
  5. Listen to Your Partner’s Underlying Feelings and Dreams, Compromise. 
  6. Recognize the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse and what to do if they are attacking your relationship. 
  7. Recognize the effects of physiological flooding and how it may affect conflict resolution.
  8. Increase romance in your relationship with small, easy steps. 

 

9.   Summarize the research that allows us to predict future relationship stability. 
10. Describe the levels of the Sound Relationship House theory. 
11. Explain why physiological self-soothing is essential for a healthy relationship. 
12. Describe how to recognize Bids and Turning Towards. 
13. Use and describe the Stress-Reducing Conversation to minimize relapse. 
14. Establish dialogue about grid-locked conflicts. 
15. Explain the Aikido Principle and how it relates to Accepting Influence. 
16. Describe the State of the Union meeting and the Magic Six Hours a Week

Workshop topics include:

  • Learn to recognize the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse and what to do if they are attacking your marriage
  • Identify your relationship’s specific strengths and how to build on them
  • Learn about the effects of physiological flooding and how it may affect conflict resolution
  • Use the Fondness and Admiration System to renew respect and care for one another
  • Create an Emotional Bank Account that you can draw upon in times of stress
  • Develop your problem-solving skills, including the 6 skills for effective conflict resolutions
  • Find out how you can make your dreams and aspirations come true for you, your partner, and your relationship

In addition to a greater understanding of how to build friendship, manage conflict, and create shared meaning in your relationship, you will receive The Art & Science of Love Box Set. The box set includes: 2 Couples Workbooks and other tools and tips to assist you in applying the exercises at home.

Leslie Baker, MFT, NCC, Certified Gottman Therapist

Leslie Baker continues to find passion for the art & science of relationships in her 25 years of experience as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, National Board Certified Counselor. She is a Certified Gottman Therapist and a Gottman Seven Principles Leader providing workshops. Leslie is an author, associateational speaker and a faculty member for various graduate programs over the past 20 years. Policies & Procedures

Please Note:

A brief telephone interview of all attendees is required before confirming participation in the workshop. Once payment is received, you will be contacted to set up the interview within a few weeks of the workshop. Once the interview with both partners is completed, your enrollment into the workshop is confirmed by the successful completion of the phone interviews. A welcome email with final details of the workshop will be sent out to you one week before the workshop.

Cancellation Policy:

Refunds less $100.00 administration fee are given for cancellations received by email to Leslie Baker at leslie@lesliebakermft.com, no less than 21 days prior to the event. If you are booking the workshop after the 21 day refund deadline - no refunds are available, should a last minute cancellation occur. Refunds are not possible less than 21 days before the event, regardless of personal circumstances. Cancellation policy is final and not negotiable. Therapy2Thrive®Ruby Hill Counseling Center, Inc. regrets the difficult personal circumstances that prevent people attending including medical concerns and emergencies, severe weather or transport difficulty, however the logistics of event management prevents T2T® RHCC from assuming responsibility for such difficulties.

Presenter Substitution:

If for any reason a scheduled presenter is not able to appear they will only be replaced with a Certified Gottman Couples Workshop Leader.

Workshop Cancellation:

If the workshop is cancelled for any reason and the Attendee is unable or unwilling to attend on a rescheduled date, the Attendee will receive a refund for 100% of workshop tuition.  We are not responsible for nor will we reimburse any travel expenses the Attendee has incurred in the event of a cancelled training. The individual or entity that made the arrangements agrees to hold harmless Therapy2Thrive® Ruby Hill Marriage & Family Counseling Center, Inc. Workshops from any and all liability associated with those travel arrangements. By registering for any Therapy2Thrive® Ruby Hill Marriage & Family Counseling Center, Inc. Workshops sponsored or hosted event the individual or entity agrees to these terms.
